Need or Strategy?

In NVC, distinguishing universal needs from specific strategies is essential for finding solutions that truly meet our needs.

Tips to Remember

1Universal test

Can everyone in the world relate to this need? If yes, it's a need. If it's specific, it's a strategy.

2Multiple ways

A need can be met in many different ways. If there's only one way, it's a strategy.

3Person/Action/Object

If it involves a specific person, action, or object - it's a strategy, not a need.

4Find the need

Behind every strategy, ask: "What need am I trying to meet?" This opens up more options.
